There is two story that related to the haunted Bhangarh Palace.
1. As per legend ,Bhangarh was cursed by the Guru Balu . He had put on one condition on construction of the town , “The very moment the shadows of your palaces(Bhangarh) touch me(guru balu ), the city will perish !” But the descendant prince didnot take his word seriously and raised the palace to a height that cast a shadow on Balu Nath’s for, he cursed the town. Balu Nath from the onwords is said to be buried there in a small samdhi
2. Other myth is that the legend of the Princess of Bhangarh, Ratnavati. She was so beautiful that She is believed to be the jewel of Rajasthan. Being eighteen years old she began to get many proposals for marriage from other states. In the same region there lived a tantrik named Singhia a magician well versed in the magic who was desperately in love with the princess at the same time he knew he will not be allowed to her and even this match was not possible. He was thinking of the ideas through which he can get his love .One day in the market Singhia saw the princess’s maid, she was buying oil for the princess he used his black magic on the oil so that merely on touching it the princess would surrender herself to the tantrik. But the tantarik plan was foiled as the princess pour it on the ground as she got to know the really intention of the tantarik She just throw the oil on a stone and the oil flowed and touched tantarik only and crushed him and he cursed the palace with the death of all who dwelt in it. The next year only there was a battle between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh in which Princess Ratnavati died.
Now is one of historical place in India where entry is prohibited for tourists in the fort after sunset and before sunrise. The locals has a faith that the princess Ratnavati has taken birth somewhere else and that the fort and the empire of Bhangarh is waiting for her return to put an end to the curse.
